CASUAL PREPPING: BUILDING EVERYDAY RESILIENCE

We’ve built fast, centralised, always-on systems for energy, communication, food, and work — and most of the time, they work brilliantly. Until they don’t.
What happens when the systems you rely on suddenly stop?
In this interactive workshop, Christian Payne explores how to think differently about resilience in an increasingly fragile world. Drawing on his own experience of infrastructure breakdown and his move to Scotland to build a more sustainable, off-grid lifestyle, Christian will guide you through practical ways to prepare for disruption.
You’ll be given a simple but realistic scenario, no power, no mobile signal, no internet for 72 hours, and work in small groups to map out a response.
Together, you’ll explore both high-tech and low-tech solutions, challenge assumptions, and uncover practical alternatives.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with:
- A clearer understanding of your own system dependencies
- A practical framework for building resilience in everyday life
- At least one tangible change you can implement immediately
This is a hands-on, thought-provoking session designed to help you rethink how you live, work, and prepare, before everything stops.
